The last SC patrol car to be wrecked was a deputy who was responding to a domestic complaint where the 911 caller stated there were shots fired. The officer was trying to get to the residence to possibility save someone's life when his car had brake fade. I would hope if you this deputy was responding to my house for a complaint as serious as this he would be driving hard to help me also. The Sheriff's department deputies work 12 hour shift so spend at least 9 hours a day on the road and accumulate a thousand miles a week. They drive at all hours and weather conditions and yes when responding to a call of service they drive at a high rate of speed. To correctly answer your question I don't know of any deputy being in an accident when they were NOT responding to someone calling for help.

Does anyone ever say anything good about anyone?? I am very certain all agencies have things they aren't that proud of. Does this mean they provide poor service? No. Does this mean they don't care? Doubt it. Everyone is so quick to be critical of every move that anyone makes but everyone fails to mention all the good things that come from it. I feel very good about ALL our county agencies. Are there problems? Sure there are. Find one where there isn't some issues. I am proud to say I am from Stewart Co and I support all our public safety agencies. SO, EMS, Fire, EMA, Rescue, K9. These men and women work hard for us. They are underpaid, some not paid, and work long hours. Give them a pat on the back instead of bringing up every little bad detail that doesn't mean anything in the end.

Why don't you both do what's actually best, and right both legally and morally. That would be to compliment and positively recognize those public servants who do good and discipline (up to and including termination) those who do wrong? It seems that the most prevalent opinions and suggestions here go to the extreme. Extremists rarely if ever serve the publics best interest or reflect the laws of the land.

That accident was caused by 4 deer runnIng across the road. If you've never been in an accident with an animal just wait because your time is coming. Vehicle vs animal accidents are most times unavoidable. Just as the 100's of people that officers work animal accidents for each year.

Just how many volunteer Fire fighters have departmental vehicles. The ones that do drive them as they please, if you look you will see them every where.I have seen them at the store, church on sunday or even where they work.So if you cant afford a vehicle join the fire department and they will give you a vehicle plus all the gas you want.

I just want to say that the reason you see firefighters with "County Fire Vehicles" at churches, stores, or at work is because fire calls don't get put on hold for those events. They have them there in case an emergency arrises because of the simple fact that if they drove their own vehicle... they would get stuck behind someone doing less than the speed limit - adding an extra 5-20 minutes to the emergency response. Want that to happen if you ever wreck or have a house fire? "Hmmm.... wonder where the firefighter chiefs are because my house is on fire?" Oh yeah, that's right. He just left church in middle of the preaching to come save you, but because you don't think he should drive his Fire Cheif's car, he will be there an additional 15 minutes late. Hope you are satisfied.

There are response vehicles assigned to 3 chief officers. Those that have the vehicles do purchase the gas for them. There are over 130 firefighters in the county. They have such vehicles as to facilitate a timely response. I think you will find this very common in departments the size of Stewart Co.

Although I'm all for cultivating free and open expression, I wold hope that no "public official" would post here or anywhere with official information ( not just when "on the clock" or using other ways to avoid their obligations) such as this, would ALWAYS INCLUDE THEIR ACTUAL NAME. It would be an injustice to both the public and their department/office/team to post replies with information gained via their jobs and not posting their true identity. Can imagine the headlines "sheriff replies o criticism but does so ANONYMOUSLY?" That would be an embarrassment.

How much do you donate? What vehicles are you referring to? It is such as shame that people want to continuously slam a volunteer agency. I guess they could all just quit. Imagine how hard, well impossible, it would be to get insurance on your home. Do this, dial up your insurance agent and ask how much your policy would be if the fire department just said we are done. Because, technically they could since they are an independent agency. Maybe if you were more educated on the fire department you would have a clue as to what your mouthing about.

Love to see that you all have nothing better to do then complain about everything. This has went from asking questions about the corrupt actions of Dover city leaders to who can bash who the most. It's getting ridiculous. O and by the way I know for a fact if an officer wrecks a car it is because he is responding to a call that you the complainer has called in. If they take to long to get to your house, I'm sure you would bitch about that too. But because they put their life's on the line responding to your problem, guess what, sometimes they have to drive at high speeds in horrible conditions and yes, sometimes brakes fail or wether conditions play a role but I have not heard of any officer being involved in any wreck, where it was negligence on the officers part. So think before you decide to bitch and maybe instead of complaining about all they do wrong, you should take a minute and thank them for all they do. There isn't very many jobs out there that we have to worry about getting shot at on a daily basis.
Why anyone would continue to operate and run this site when it has gotten so far off track is beyond me. It was originally set up to bring out the wrongdoing of the chief and the city and hopefully defend the officer which had been done wrong. But it has now turned into a site which I believe would not be taken serious if anything did go to court and probably effect the officer more then the chief. The person who usually wins usually says the least. Get this site in order and I could only hope that the person who created this site would delete comments that have nothing to do with the case.

For the people on here bitching about the police in this county. I bet that you didn't know that a great majority of the officers in this county have to be on food stamps because their pay is so low that they can't support their families on their paychecks from this crooked ass county. But others that have made up jobs by the Joiner Mafia make a lot better money than the men who protect you. So next time you want to bitch about the officers don't call them handle shit for yourself, or stop and think why do these guy's put their lives on the line for the citizens of this county for almost nothing? Most any cop will tell you that they don't do it for the money, that's for damned sure in this county. Next time you see one of these officers stop and tell them that you appreciate what they do. I Just wanted to say that my real issue with alot of this is that I feel like Jeff Knott was not treated adequately. I went to the city meeting that night, and what bothered me the most was that we had several very respected citizens stand and asked questions concerning the event that happened to Jeff, and they were not given an answer. These meetings are for the purpose of giving the citizens answers to their questions. They are the people you are working for. They were treated as if their concerns did not matter. It should never be that way. I highly respect the fact that Terry Odom and Tim Barrow offered a reasonable solution to the problem which I feel could have stopped alot of this chaos that has started. I also felt like they tried to overlook Terry's motion that night which was not right either. Jeff is a very respectable man, he deserved to be treated with respect, as with anyone that comes to city officials for concerns. We need to acknowledge these concerns and find a honest solution.
I do respect Terry and Tim who really seemed concerned for the people. Thank you for the opportunity to post my concerns.

My voice is not based off of assumptions, but facts. This is about everyone who is suppose to uphold the law & a certain amount of moral standing. We need a Buford Pusser-ish group of individuals who will infiltrate the entire county & finally make a difference. THIS is why I found it easy to make the decision to move soon (not only that but there isn't hardly any business/industry here with the opportunity for advancement). I have lived in this town my ENTIRE life & I will not stand by & let my child be subjected to incompetence & potentially dangerous individuals who make a CHOICE to be corrupt. I've had experiences with individuals in the past & if their actions of what they have done were to be exposed, they would have been arrested for illegal activity or rejected by the public for their moral incompetence. When I was in high school, there was nothing but corruptible people & overflowing drug use/distribution in school & all over the county. A majority of the people I attended high school with were using drugs then (thank goodness a lot of them have changed their lives) & I do NOT want my child following the same path that nearly led to my destruction that was caused by overwhelming NEGATIVE INFLUENCE. (Thank the Lord for His grace that I have been led away from that life & yes my mistakes were my fault but I learned from them). Yes, drug use in schools happens everywhere but it is worse in SCHS than most, trust me. Many of you would be shocked to know how many people in this county use drugs & participate in illegal activity & who they actually are, & how many of them subject/influence their own children to drug use & illegal activities. It sickens me to know these things & the things I have experienced first hand over the years. I know that one person can truly make a difference but it would take a strong moral center to fix this town of its mistakes. Some people have had nothing but pleasant experiences with the police officers, officials, & etc. But that's only because they have not seen the ugly face of truth rear its head up or witness illegal or immoral activity by them in the past. I'm not here to judge them because it is not my place, but the corrupt DO need to be held accountable. There are far too many people out there that say it can't be controlled or changed, or the county is fine so if you don't like it leave it. The latter statement is made by people who will continue to live here their entire lives & never make anything of themselves. Just stating facts, but the truth is I don't want to waste my life in a town with so many burdens that have caused me misery & so few opportunities for careers. Not judging anyone for that because it's their choice, but it's not a life I'm personally going to lead since I can worship the Lord anywhere especially :) .
I am a listener, not a gossiper like 80% of the people here. I keep my hears & eyes open & my mouth shut because things can be blown entirely out of proportion in this town if anything more is said about a subject that is merely hear-say. Don't get me wrong, there are good people here as well, VERY good people. These are the ones who stay out of trouble, worship the Lord & keep to themselves & do what they are suppose to do to support their families. I'm not downing every individual within this county, because that would be unfair, unjust, & just plain wrong. There are people here that I truly love & could not find anyone like them anywhere else.
It really saddens me to know that a lot of the officials here have little ethical or moral standing. This county is a piece of work that needs its societal innards torn out & re-worked from the ground up, starting with city/county officials & the police force. The people of Stewart County need to take this town BACK & make it an honest & pleasant place to live once again. As for me? I can no longer stand by & watch the place I grew up in suffocate itself with polluted actions. Many of you might say, "There isn't a town out there that isn't corrupt"...sorry to say but that is inaccurate. The town I'm planning on moving to has a reputation that is quite the contradiction of Dover (I've spent a lot of time there & have talked to people that have lived there their entire lives). It's a beautiful place with wonderful people & has an old-fashioned police department that upholds the law appropriately & doesn't abuse their authoratative position. Ever so often in every town (no matter how decent it is), an idiot comes along & does what this entire county has BEEN doing. But thank God the times it has happened has been few & far between for a lot places. Bad things happen to good people, that is just a fact of life. But when you mix circumstances with corruption & dishonesty, the result is what we live with today here. I pray for change & I pray for the people involved. But I know this: If corruption continues to be practiced, it will be uncovered one day. I'm not just referring to the type of corrupt

Just the very fact that you are so touchy about the subject tells me that you are probably an officer and you're guilty of the very thing I am talking about. Every department deals with most of these issues. The corruption issues seem pretty extreme about the Chief and they should be investigated but I'm sure the officers as a whole do a great job. Being a police officer takes a special breed. We are ALL under paid and deal with situations the general public can not comprehend. We are expected to fix others problems and yet we are never appreachated. There are always people complaining about the way we do our job but really they couldn't do what we do. We may get a call of service and drive fast then as we are responding we are told we are not needed so the public thinks we are driving fast just to drive fast. Keep your head up emergency workers. As the other person said "some people are just complainers". They will be thanking you when they are calling 911 because they need your help.

October 11 the County Commissioners will meet. The agenda and details are posted on the Stewart County Website Calendar Link. In reviewing what is to be voted on I noticed on page 14 of the Commissioner's paperwork a budget transfer from one department to another. The reasoning used was "due to a resignation and reorganization of duties, salary amounts and classifications are being changed."
The concern I have is every time an employee resigns do we need to transfer budget money? The explanation given is that 2 out of the 4 employees will now be under Circuit Court. This is the way it has been for a year now. Why wasn't this change made during budget request time frame? Perception would lead the general public to believe a transfer during a budget year (which is quite common in Stewart County) clouds up an already complicated budget.
With the political problems of Dover City, does the County Commissioners want City Type Issues carrying over to the County?
It appears to me games are being played with budget and while this is not an earth shattering transfer with "no increase in Total monies" the reasoning and timing is just not above board. Especially when the reclassification and reorganization of duties actually occurred in the fiscal year 2010-2011 Budget time frame, not the current Budge year time frame.
County Commissioners may pass this budget transfer but I would caution each Commissioner to be on guard. Transfers such as this that should have been made through the Budget Request Process but are made in mid-year would be a RED FLAG to me that someone is setting up to hide expenditures such as salary increases..new positions...etc.

I was just wondering if the school zone speed limit doesnt apply to state trooper wives! I was passed this morning by one and I never seen the brake lights go on and she never slowed down. By the time I pulled out of the school the same vehicle went back by, again going way to fast. You can bet if someone who didn't have that FOP plate on the back of their vehicle done that they would be pulled over for sure.

I don't have to worry about how they run the town because I'M NOT BREAKING THE LAW! I went to school(Which I'm sure you did too but probably complained about how bad the teachers were or maybe why you didn't make the team being because you weren't some certain last name. NOT BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY WEREN'T ANY GOOD WHICH WAS THE ACTUAL REASON YOU DIDN'T MAKE IT)and after I went to school (and learned other than complained) I worked hard and went through several jobs until I found one that provided well enough for my family. I WORKED FOR IT! NOBODY GAVE IT TO ME! JUST LIKE ALL THESE PEOPLE YOU ARE ATTACKING DID! The problem is that you want to do whatever you want(not work) and be rich. I bet you're the type person who always blames everybody else for what happens wrong with you! GO WORK, STOP BEING LAZY, AND LIVE WHATEVER LIFESTYLE YOU WANT! THEY CAN'T AFFECT YOUR LIFE THAT MUCH BECAUSE THIS IS AMERICA MORON! Oh yeah they can affect your life, WHEN YOU BREAK THE LAW!

SSG Mendoza,
I'm not sure what your "check my story too" refers to but I'm certain of this, if your 1SG Watters and CPT Sproles knew their names were involved in this blog they would not be delighted with you. In fact, for referring to the citizens that you "protect" as pukes, you could be setting yourself up for a rank less than Staff Sargent. Being in the Army is not permission nor some excuse to belittle, berate, and attempt to humiliate those you are speaking to or about. As an SSG you certainly should and are required to hold yourself to a higher standard. Your posts are an embarrassment to your peers in the US Army. Tell me, what is it exactly that you are defending? By that, I mean what in this thread are you defending? The actions of the SHT? A Master's degree? Really?

I served 24 proud years in the army and would never attempt to predict people and especially those I have never met. This is just one simple minded opinion and does not reflect the good soldiers in the military. this one is way off base. This looks like a soldier who has regrets and issues within himself. Please do not take this one persons opinion of the real soldiers of our armed forces

I am seriously considering "checking his story out too" (as he put it). You are right 'disgusted' he is just one person with an opinion. Unfortunately, for some of us, everyone is entitled to one. It most concerns me that he has claimed he's a SSG in the US Army. That probably means he has more responsibility than he should be entitled. It's not hard to 'fact check' his story either and I think the 1sg and Commander who's names have been unfairly involved may just need to get wind of what is being said on this blog by an NCO that represents them and their company.

I happen to know this family through one of the sons and I can tell you that they are a good family who has run into some bad luck with the choices that one of their sons made. Sometimes people make the wrong choices and they will have to face the results it will bring. I also have concerns about the 3 beautiful children that didnt ask to be a part of this but now are. They lost their stuff in this, clothes shoes toys etc.Eveything quaranteed and will be destroyed because of the danger of this horrible drug. Holidays right around the corner and now monies will have to be used to replace what was lost sad sad sad.... I was almost in tears when I seen the faces of the family, they were stunned, mad, and sad all at the same time. God Bless all of them and keep the faith

Here's a new one for ya! SCHS has allowed the Junior and Senior class to bring a "guest" to Prom. Head's up, if your child wants to bring someone of the same sex then they MUST BE in a SERIOUS relationship with that person. If not, it's a no go. Prom is about making memories with friends, PERIOD. If you are going to allow them to bring a "guest" you better remove your restrictions. Who the hell are you SCHS to DEMAND an intimate relationship if you want to bring a lower classman as a "guest"? Your little 'regulations' are going to get you in over your head. You want to prevent 'overcrowding' then restrict your prom to Juniors and Seniors ONLY don't try and play devil's advocate to entertain the gay and lesbian community. You are making a mockery of them. Just for the record. My child is NOT gay but would like to go to prom with her friends. Some of which are Freshman and Sophmores. Those are the "guests" that I'm referring to. I cannot believe this is even an issue. What a ridiculous stance to take.

I will not concur that there was a "miscommunication" or "misunderstanding" concerning my child taking a same gender 'guest' to prom. That was not so. Trooper Seay
5/8/2012 11:01:36 pm
Some one help me out here. Is this not the same deputy seay that was said to have been stalking someone and when she turned him down made false arresst or tickets on. Was he not fired or let go or told to resign? Is he now wearing a trooper hat and out there doing the same thing?
I hadnt heard about the pot but I also would like to know if any one else has as since this has hit the news rumors about it has gone crazy.
I don't know anything about him being fired, told to resign, etc.... I do know that a couple years ago I witnessed an accident that he was involved in as a civilian driver, and his behavior was absolutely atrocious! After purchasing gas at Papa Rock, I pulled behind a car at the stop sign at the intersection of Joiner Hollow Rd. and Hwy. 79. The car that was in front of me attempted to turn left to head north toward Clarksville on Hwy. 79. She pulled out in front of Trooper Seay who was heading south on Hwy. 79 toward Dover in an older model yellow Jeep Wrangler, and he hit her in the driver side of her vehicle. The accident was completely the lady's fault. After Trooper Seay hit her, he got out of his vehicle, approached the other vehicle in which the lady that was driving was very scared and apologetic. That didn't matter to him at all as he began screaming at and berating her. He cursed her up one side and down the other, and scared this poor lady to death. He kept screaming, "Do you know who I fu%$ing am? I am a fu#$ing state trooper you stupid bi^@h!" He continued screaming this over and over and many many other horrible things. This lady was so scared, and he just kept on and on. I stepped in between he and the lady's car which she was still in because she was too scared to exit. I stepped in because I literally thought he was going to get physical with her. And here is the real kicker you guys.........the entire time this was happening, he had his one to two year old child screaming in the front seat of his jeep in a child's seat that was not even buckled. That's right, a state trooper with his own child in the front seat of his jeep wrangler not even buckled in. When I stepped in between he and the poor, scared lady I kept telling him that he needed to check on his screaming young child, but for those few minutes of profanity laced screaming, that did not matter to him. I could not believe what I was witnessing, and that it was the behavior of a state trooper. I do not know whatever became of that whole incident, or if he ever was reprimanded for that horrible behavior. I do know that we do not need that kind of egotistical, unstable kind of person armed on a daily basis! Based on that experience, he seriously needs help. He does not need to be, nor should he ever have been made a state trooper! From everything else that I have read and learned, I am sure that he was never reprimanded or anything. I would bet anything that it was covered up by the brotherhood of nepotism that is rampant in this county!

And let me also say that I have no problems with any branch of our law enforcement, and some of the good people that work for them. I have problems with the corruption that some of the people in charge of these law enforcement entities obviously relish in. There are some good officers of the law around here, and there are some who are corrupt or just crazy. I don't know if Trooper Seay is corrupt, but I would lean toward the idea that he is unstable enough to be dangerous as a state trooper. And that is just from the events that I witnessed after that car accident. I have heard other bad things about him, but I am not going to discuss rumors. The events that I wrote in the post above are purely factual and accurate. I witnessed it, and would not have believed it had I not!

I can assure everyone that the police dept in dover is not represented by Officer Seay. The previous entry was completely correct about Officer Seay. He is without a doubt truly unprofessional! I could tell many first hand accounts that sound very familiar with the unstable behavior. I could also refer you to several people who could tell you how Officer Seay truly does believe that he is someone of importance! But we all know that no matter where you go in this world you will run into that behavior. However I know several officers in the county who are hard working and honest individuals. They do not deserve to be lumped in with someone who doesn't represent their dedication to keeping citizens safe.

I agree with you in that I am sure that there are good officers in the county, but I do know there are some power hungry, egotistic officers as well. I disagree with you when you say that Trooper Seay doesn't represent other officers because the sad fact is that, not only does he represent county and city officers, he represents all citizens of this county. And frankly, he is an embarrassment! This county wastes a ton of money building a useless visitor center to promote tourism, and yet no one wants to come here because of the reputation of our law enforcement collectively. If I didn't live here, I would not come to this county either! And I am often embarrassed to even say that I live here, and that is sad. And before a bunch of you jump on here and, "If you don't like, then leave", not to worry, moving from here is high on my priority list. When the time is right, we will be moving. And before a bunch of you jump on here and say, "If you think it should change then you should try to stay and help change it". I believe it will never change. This website is a great thing, and people can have a collective voice. But, I do not think the corruption and nepotism will ever change in this county. Speaking of corruption and nepotism, when is the blog about the school system going to stop being under construction? Every time I click on that it says, "Under Construction". I am so looking forward to that being up and running. Of all the corrupt entities in this county, the school system is probably the worst! The corrupt individuals in charge and the school board and the whole system is rife with corruption and nepotism!!

Trooper Seay is a STATE highway patrolman. He may be from this county but he works for the state and not the county. Trust me, I agree with everything you are saying about him but he is not like MOST of the police officers in this county. And as far as the school system goes. Before you go any farther with that; compare this county scores to the rest of the state. As a system they annually score in the top 10 percent and usually in the top 5. This is an Outstanding School System.

I am well aware that Trooper Seay is a state trooper. However, he still represents the county, and I do agree with you that there are plenty of good officers here. And when I am speaking of the school system, I am not speaking about test scores. I am speaking about corruption and nepotism, and that is what is rampant in the school system. And when I speak of corruption, of course I am not talking about some of the good people who are teachers in this system, I am talking about the school board, director of schools, etc..... If you are a teacher, then I am sure you are a good one and I am not talking about you. I am talking about the people you work for if you are a teacher. Some of them are as crooked as the the road to Erin. Again, let me say that I am not speaking of teachers. I know for a fact that there are some outstanding teachers in this system that are underpaid and under-appreciated.

Well I don't consider myself a person who knows what's going on at the school board or know anything about the director. I can only speak for the teachers and principals at North Stewart, SCMS, and SCHS because I've had children at all 3. And I consider myself a very lucky parent for my children to have the opportunity to go to these fine schools. The "corruption and nepotism" may be going on but you can't tell it in the school buildings because they are wonderful environments for children!

How often are you in the school buildings? And as I said, I am not talking about the teachers, or at least not most of the teachers. I am talking about the director of schools and some members of the school board. Do you know Phillip Wallace or any of the school board members? They have allowed some awful, horrible things occur on school grounds and at the expense of children for 25 years and just cover it up. It was going on then and it still goes on today. It is disgusting! And you are never going to get hired for a position unless you are well connected, no matter how much education and training a person has, and no matter how much more qualified and experienced a person is, that person will never be hired over a "local" with little education and experience. It is absolutely ridiculous, and in no way is that student-first thinking. Phillip Wallace and most of the school board have a serious lack of morality that is deplorable and disgusting! If I were a teacher, there is no way that I would ever work for him or teach in this county, and I know several others who are teachers who feel the same way. Stewart County is a joke to the surrounding counties and, as much as I hate that, there is good reason for it and I can see why it is that way. It is sad and embarrassing and I will not be a citizen of Stewart County much longer!
Excellent! I admire all the helpful data you've shared in your articles. I'm looking forward for more helpful articles from you. :)

WHY is the "Stewart County Schools" link still "Under Construction"? The so-called construction must be being completed by the same contractor that built the schools, which was the same contractor but just under a different name while building each school because the contractor was so crooked. What school system in their right mind would secure the same contracting company that built one school for us that is now falling apart, and the company was so crooked that they had to disband, and then start again under the guise of a new name? Whose pockets were lined in those transactions Dr. Wallace?

So I hear the case that was talked about all over the news and ALL of Stewart County has had some progress. It's my understanding after the preliminary hearing the Judge said there was enough evidence to send the case to the Grand Jury. Well after the testimony the Grand Jury of 12 jurors not only voted for a true bill they agreed the case was handled properly. Looks like people are hearing the "rest of the story". Good job Stewart Couny deputies. You serve your community well and those who are not arrested for breaking the law are proud of you. Thanks for all you do and keeping us safe from idiots.

The grand jusry doesnt decide if a case is handled properly. A true bill may have been hande3d down but you blew your whole integrity when you added that. All the grand jusry does is decide whether or not to indite and just so you know as you seem to be the only one who doesnt, the DA could get a grand jurys to indite a ham sandwich. And the one part I agree with is the deputies as a whole do a great job, you just dont know half of what you are talking about and it is obvious to those who know the law

I know the law and I also know how to spell. Look at what you wrote and count how many words you spelled correctly. You say the person who spoke about the grand jury didn't know about the law and that the DA could get a "true bill" against a ham sandwich? Your an idiot. The general sessions judge saw cause to send the case to the grand jury then that jury voted for a true bill. I can't wait to see what happens at trial!! I can't wait for all the information to be public and for everyone to see the video. I can't wait to hear how wonderful people these defendants are. All I'm saying is justice will be served.

Is it true that the officers were investigated by the sheriff and the DA's office out of Dickson and the determined the officers did nothing wrong? If so shouldn't that be on the news so everyone can see that? I've also heard that all those law suits against the deputies have been dismissed and unfounded. I'm greatful to have the officers we have and a department and Sheriff That do such a great job protecting me.

What does holiday inn have to do with anything? Maybe the 5 people you say have seen the video will get picked for jury duty, well that's if they can make bond from being in jail themselves. The deputy who resigned did so months after this incident and for reasons that have nothing to do with this case. Here's the thing, justice will be served. I believe in the justice system and in the officers who put their lives on the line everyday to protect YOU and I.

Ive spent a lot of time in jail and I've never done anything wrong! I was framed by the cops every time. As a matter of a fact everyone in jail was framed!! Hahaha yeah right. Cops do a good job. You hide behind your computer and talk trash but I guarantee if that officer was standing in front of you, you would say "I didn't say that"! When your house is being broke into on a dark stormy night or someone is beating you up your going to be the one calling for a police officer. When your husband, wife, family or friend is in a vehicle accident a police officer will be the first one there to do CPR. When your neighbor's house is on fire a police officer will be the first one there and run inside without thinking about his own safety. We do a job most people are scared to do. Tread lightly friend. It may be you calling for help.

Who isn't in favor of a new jail?? If your answer is not in favor here's a quick fact. The state will not allow Stewart County to house more than 18 inmates at one time so the overflow inmates have to be moved to the Henry County. Here's the kicker! Stewart County pays $10,000 to $18,000 per month to Henry county depending on how many inmates of ours they keep. So tell Ms. Black she should do more research before she runs her mouth without knowing all the facts.

New Jail
10/28/2012 11:04:54 pm
I for one am for a new jail. The state has required us to build one. The problem I have with it is the size and cost. And the fact that they are borrowing 500.000 for the ball park to go along with it. The school is also getting 150,000 for books and supplies for the high school. This I have no problem with. But I would like to ask the school board why they bought land for a ball park knowing they needed books and other supplies to educate our kids. It seems like they are putting sports over our kids education. So I would like to ask everone to sign the petition to stop the 8.2 million dollar bond as it is and have it put on a ballot for the public to vote on. The petition can be signed at the old dover elem. school someone will be set up there for the rest of early voting. These are your tax dollars so let your voice be heard.

The new jail issue has been going on for years and has been in the newspaper for a very long time. I remember seeing a photo of John Vinson when he was Sheriff years ago in the paper so this is not a brand new issue. As for the size of a new jail, a 108 bed jail sounds reasonable, especially when you view the booking logs and read the newspaper about how much it costs to send prisoners to other counties to comply with the State. Articles in the Paris paper include: "The Paris Post-Intelligencer ... Henry County general fund; 20 were Stewart County prisoners generating $21,210 in revenue from Stewart County" and "Oct 17, 2012 – Twelve of these were Stewart County prisoners generating $12,705 in revenue from Stewart County to the Henry County general fund." "Jun 7, 2012 – Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew reported that during the month of February ... Nineteen of these were Stewart County prisoners generating $19,110". These apparently are monthly totals.
Do a google search for the cost of building. It shocked me. Stewart County legislative body voted down the original plan for a criminal complex saving money, and the paper stated the current sheriff made cuts to save money.
And to comment on a new ball field, I'm speechless as to the cost, too tired, and my computer hasn't recovered after researching a new jail.
What I have learned, I need to be more knowledgeable. I need to read the newspaper and attend more public meetings.
Am I for a new jail? Yes and no. I know it is needed, but I don't want my taxes to go up. And with that I hear two different things...the bonds the county wants to use with be at a low interest rate which would be a benefit to county residents, then I hear that is not true.
Am I against a new ball field? No. I'm just wondering why a ball field would costs so much. And once again, the bonds would be at a low interest rate.
I don't know what the answer is. I wish I was more knowledgeable and I guess I would have been if I had been a little more involved. Maybe I should have called my county commissioner and asked questions. Maybe I should have attended the public meetings and asked questions. Maybe I should have called the County Mayors office and asked. I don't know.
That's my two cents worth for the nights.
