We had sent in questions regarding the adding of a new position in 911, and we received a response from both 911 and the Stewart Houston Times. They tried to justify their hiring without a post, but it just doesnt wash. Anytime a job is moved from a part time to a full time that is a new position period!!!!!! Here is a copy of the response we received
As was reported in the July 26 issue of The Stewart Houston Times, on page A1, the members of the E911 Committee agreed at their regular meeting on July 21 to make existing 911 employee Mike Smothers’ position full-time since his work load had increased. Basically, as the story pointed out, he was putting in full-time hours while drawing a part-time salary. The board agreed to raise his salary to compensate him. He was already an employee so that job did not need to be posted. The part of his job that they split off, the numbering coordinator part, was advertised in The Stewart Houston Times in the August 16 issue on page B7, a large ad in amongst the other employment ads. Our job is to get the information into the paper when it happens, but we only do this once unless there are verifiable updates. We do not have the staff to chew our cabbage twice. The Stewart County Public Library has back issues of The Stewart Houston Times available for patrons to read. They also have older issues on microfilm. They may be reached at 931-232-3127. SO THEY ADVERTISED THE OLD PART TIME POSITION WHICH WOULD TELL US THEY HAD TO FILL IT BECAUSE IT OPENED UP DUE TO THE EMPLOYEE ACCEPTING A NEW FULL TIME POSITION. JUST COMMON SENSE HERE
This answer is just plain wrong. There was a new job created and it was a full time job. Why wasnt anyone else allowed to apply???????
Now why have they chose to answer this but ignore the other issues at hand.
My my how the Stewart Houston Times is more concerned with their deadlines than finding the truth. Seems instead of publishing one side of the story and it is doubtful it is fully truthful, they would have talked to all parties involved. Well I guess we got what we expect from them and their reporter who is alleged to over and over publish stories for the good of her career and not the truth. Everyone should call them and demand the truth and ask them to investigate allegations on this website. All business owners in Dover should pull their advertising till they do.......931-232-5421. Ask the SHT where the local presence of this newspaper is. Ask them how many employees are related to each other and how many jobs are from outside the Editor and Dover City Mayors family.
Thanks to your voice we can make a difference. Tell them all we will not have anything to do anymore with anyone who does not stand up for what is right. Ask them their opinion, ask them to also speak up and be heard.
